M Puzzle: Shredded What?

Teams are provided with a bag of shredded paper, which is four sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper printed on both sides. One side of the paper contains the following image:

which are, clockwise from the upper left: herrings in red sauce, a Matrix-like cover from Red Herring magazine, the cover of a novel called Red Herring, a herring colored red, and a statuette of the Tick villain called The Angry Red Herring.

All of these can be ignored in favor of the image on the other side:

...which, though the words have been photoshopped out, is the following photo:

and this is the answer. (Those are K-rations from World War II, by the way.)
